What's available at my practice?
Currently, the services available at Addison Road Medical Practice are:
- Chlamydia screening
- HPV screening
- Contraception advice and prescription
- HPV vaccinations
Chlamydia Screening
There are two types of kits available depending on your age:
- Under 25 years old - urine sample kits are sent in the post, and the patient is sent a text with the result.
- Over 25 years old - This is a swab, recommended to be done when having a cervical smear test
HPV screening
HPV testing is part of cervical screening. There's no blood test for HPV.
During cervical screening, a small sample of cells is taken from the cervix and tested for HPV.
Screening is offered to all women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64. It helps protect them against cervical cancer.
Contraception advice and prescription
The practice offers oral contraception advice, reviews and prescription.
You can submit reviews using our online consultation service - contraception review. We do ask for an up to date blood pressure reading before any new prescription is authorised.
Contraception medication is free of charge within the NHS.
HPV vaccinations
In England, all boys and girls aged 12 to 13 years are routinely offered the 1st HPV vaccination when they're in Year 8 at school. The 2nd dose is offered 6 to 24 months after the 1st dose.
If you're eligible and miss the HPV vaccine offered in Year 8 at school, you can get it for free on the NHS up until your 25th birthday. Contact your school immunisation team or GP surgery.
